This set of textbooks has six volumes and 70 lessons for college students. The first three volumes have 38 lessons, introducing fundamental pronunciation, Chinese characters, vocabulary, sentence structure, and functional items. The fourth volume is a transition from elementary level to intermediate level. The fifth and sixth volumes have 20 lessons at the intermediate level.
Every lesson includes introductory remarks, a text, new words, additional new words, explanatory notes, exercises and practices, reading and retelling, grammar, characters and cultural knowledge. There is a wide coverage of interesting topics. The first two volumes give knowledge of customs and culture closely related to Chinese expressions and understanding. The third and fourth volumes compare Chinese culture with a Western one through interesting and focused topics. The fifth and sixth volumes introduce various aspects of Chinese society, reflecting traditional Chinese culture and a contemporary life.
Each textbook is accompanied by an Exercise Book, a Teacher's Book, an audio tape and a multimedia CD.
